Brussels - The European statistical office Eurostat reported today that house prices in the euro area fell by 0.4 percent in the first quarter of this year.
That figure, measured by the Housing Price Index, fell compared to the same period in 2023, thus completing a year of decline, while it fell by 0.1% compared to the previous three months.
Across the European Union (EU), housing values registered a year-on-year increase of 1.3 percent in the first quarter, while in the quarterly comparison they rose 0.4 percent.
They added that among the Member States for which data is available, seven EU countries showed a year-on-year decrease in the prices of this indicator in the first quarter of 2024, and 19 showed a year-on-year increase.
The largest annual declines were recorded in Luxembourg (-10.9 percent), Germany (-5.7) and France (-4.8), while the largest increases were recorded in Poland (+18), Bulgaria (+16) and Lithuania (+9.9).
