Construction Begins; Engineer Vivian Reyes Resigns from the Ministry of Housing

Engineer Vivian Reyes resigns from the Ministry of Housing

SANTO DOMINGO- Engineer Vivian Reyes resigned from her position as Vice Minister of Standards, Procedures and Regulations of the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), a position she held since the creation of that department in August 2021.

The former official was appointed by decree 497-21 issued by the Executive Branch in August 2021, the same decree that appointed engineer Carlos Alberto Bonilla as minister of the new institution, a position that the official still holds.

The engineer's resignation occurred in mid-March of this year, as she told El Inmobiliario: "As you know, I paused my private practice when I was asked to join the State's efforts for the benefit of the construction sector," she explained.

He said it was time to return to his private practice, given that his company had been requesting his resignation for some time. “So I made my position available in mid-March,” Reyes stated.

She expressed her deep gratitude for the trust placed in her to lead "such a relevant transition as that of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) to MIVHED, particularly in such crucial areas as those that make up the Vice Ministry," she explained.

He noted that he is retiring with the satisfaction of a duty fulfilled.

In an interview with this media outlet last year, Reyes highlighted the great responsibility that weighed on his shoulders, being in charge of one of the six vice-ministries of the Ministry of Housing, specifically the unit that must ensure that buildings in the country are constructed safely.

“The responsibility is very great because of what that care and pursuit of compliance with those regulations and standards represents; it is extremely important, it is the safety of every citizen who lives here, we are always inside a building in our home and at work,” the former deputy minister declared at the time.

He said that the processing of building permits and the inspection of works, which together guarantee the safety and functionality of buildings in the Dominican Republic, had represented a great challenge, but above all a great satisfaction.

Vivian Reyes graduated at the age of 22 with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Unibe). She holds a Master of Science in Construction Management and a postgraduate degree in Construction Administration. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, she leads the firm Urbe Construcciones alongside her husband, Héctor Mendizábal.

She is an active member of the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Promoters (ACOPROVI), of which she was part of the board of directors in the period 2016-2018.
