SANTO DOMINGO.-The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, appointed Edgar García Cabrera as director of the Unit for the Promotion of Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development of the province of Santo Domingo.
The designation is contained in decree 639-22, issued by the Executive Branch last Monday, November 7.
According to his LinkedIn profile, García Cabrera is a lawyer appointed as an advisor to the Senatorial Office of the province of Santo Domingo, he was coordinator of the Municipal Security project of the Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus), he was a technical manager at the Juan Bosch Foundation, among other positions.
The Commission for the Promotion of Territorial Planning, called "Santo Domingo 2050", was created by decree 595-22 on October 14th.
"Santo Domingo 2050" is defined by the Government as the largest sustainable planning strategy in the Dominican Republic, which aims to counteract the population growth rate of the Santo Domingo province, impacting seven municipalities: Santo Domingo Este, Pedro Brand, San Antonio de Guerra, Santo Domingo Oeste, Bajos de Haina, Los Alcarrizos and Santo Domingo Norte.
The initiative also includes promoting investment in the construction of housing complexes, an arts center, libraries, and recording and film studios. Additionally, it includes a water park designed to harmonize with the Ozama, Isabela, and Higüero rivers, the transformation of landfills into green spaces, and other actions.
