Airlines announce offers to facilitate visits to Argentina.
SANTO DOMINGO.- With the aim of boosting bilateral tourism, the Dominican Republic and Argentina announced the signing of a cooperation agreement, considering the sector to be a great instrument for regional integration and the economic development of their peoples.
So far in 2025, Argentina has become the third largest of visitors to the Dominican Republic, with 281,400 air passengers through July, according to official data. This allows for projections that arrivals from this market alone could exceed 400,000 by the end of the year, stated Tourism Minister David Collado.
However, only 5,000 Dominicans visit Argentina annually, according to its Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports, Daniel Scioli, which has motivated the Argentine government to strengthen the promotion of its tourism offerings in the Dominican Republic, with a view to attracting twice as many Dominicans by the end of this year.
This initiative materialized with the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement led by Scioli and Collado, with the aim of strengthening tourism exchange and strengthening trade ties between both nations.
The agreement includes the implementation of measures to facilitate reciprocal tourism, as well as the coordination of joint international promotion campaigns, and also includes the exchange of experiences and best practices in key areas such as attracting tourism investments and the sustainable development of the sector.
“This joint declaration is another step towards strengthening trade with Argentina,” Collado stated, while Scioli praised the importance of tourism “in our economies and our cultural diversity.”
“We are convinced that with this action, we will double the arrivals of Dominicans,” Scioli said hours before his meeting with Collado during “Visit Argentina,” an event in which officials, airline representatives, tour operators, and travel agencies from both countries explored the wide range of ecotourism, wine tourism, cultural, and city offerings that the South American nation has to offer.
The Argentine official indicated that this goal motivated Argentina to reduce the bureaucratic procedures that Dominicans interested in traveling previously had to go through, allowing them to enter the country with a US visa, which is in addition to the increase in flight frequencies after the open skies agreement.
Routes and offers
Along those lines, representatives from Copa Airlines, Arajet, and Aerolíneas Argentinas announced their air routes, expansion plans, and available offers to encourage Dominicans to discover what Argentina to offer.
Aerolíneas Argentinas announced that it will offer flights from Punta Cana to Buenos Aires for $500 throughout September , with the option to add a second destination within Argentina for an additional $50 to $100. This promotion applies to travel until November 20th of this year.
Meanwhile, Copa Airlines announced the "Panama Stopover" offer, allowing Dominicans who want to travel to Argentina to add a stop in Panama at no extra cost to their ticket, as long as the visit to Panama is scheduled for 20 hours up to a maximum of seven days.
