Merengue music resounds in Times Square to promote the tourist attractions of the Dominican Republic

For seven days, the Dominican Republic was present in the iconic Times Square, where visitors from various latitudes immersed themselves in Dominican culture, the land of merengue and beautiful beaches, bringing warmth to the cold New York winter.

David Collado, Minister of Tourism, described the "Change the Season" exhibition as a true promotional success. This innovative initiative of his administration, which concluded yesterday, Sunday, November 26, showcased the many riches of beautiful Quisqueya and attracted thousands of people who expressed their intention to vacation in the Dominican Republic.

The smell of coffee and the sound of the perico ripiao drum, a Cibao scene, thrilled thousands of people where a sample of Dominican wonders were exhibited in the city of New York to highlight the variety of attractions that the Caribbean country has.

The Dominican beaches and forested lands of the Dominican Republic were showcased in a tent set up by the Ministry of Tourism in the world capital, where citizens of various nationalities had the opportunity to gather and take refuge from the low temperatures with the exciting warmth of Creole culture.

“It’s an honor to bring the warmth and beauty of the Dominican Republic to iconic Times Square. ‘Change the Season’ allows us to showcase the unique facets of our culture and the warmth of our people,” Collado said.

The “Change the Season” installation was an enclosed dome designed to bring to life the best of the Dominican Republic and its culture both inside and outside the dome.

The structure is an original piece by the renowned Dominican artist Angurria, who painted the mural as seen from the outside, capturing the Dominican spirit, culture, and traditions.

The Change the Season pop-up installation was located in Duffy Square on Broadway between 45th and 46th St. in Times Square (across from Sephora), open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. yesterday, Sunday, November 19.

Visitors to the facility also learned about the variety of travel experiences that the Dominican Republic offers, from the renowned beaches of Punta Cana and golf courses of La Romana, to the mountains of La Vega, among other destinations.

“We are delighted to share the unparalleled experiences that our country has to offer and invite visitors from all over the world to explore our diverse landscapes, rich cuisine, renowned rums and unmatched hospitality,” added the Minister of Tourism.

Collado highlighted the importance of the United States, especially the State of New York, for the Dominican Republic, as it has historically been the main source market for tourists.

The United States is the main country of origin for tourists and represents 54% of visitors arriving in Dominican territory.

Five of the 10 most frequent flights to the Dominican Republic come from the New York and New Jersey area, which accounts for 35% of travelers visiting the country.

Collado said that this initiative is part of the work being done by the Ministry of Tourism and the Dominican private sector to ensure that more tourists visit the Dominican Republic during the winter and "have the best high season in history.".
