"We invite all passengers with scheduled flights to check the status of their flight with their airline, who will notify them if there is any delay or cancellation," Aerodom stated.
Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) announced on Monday the activation of its hurricane contingency plan at the country's airports, in anticipation of the possible passage of Tropical Storm Franklin through the Dominican Republic, which is expected to affect the national territory, including Greater Santo Domingo, on Tuesday.
The entity highlighted in a press release that they are working together with the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE), taking the necessary precautions and following international aeronautical safety protocols, in order to guarantee the safety of passengers, airport personnel and the terminals operated by this concessionary company.
The concessionary company said that the prevention measures against the natural phenomenon are carried out by continuously monitoring the official bulletins issued by the National Meteorological Office (Onamet).
He explained that, in addition, they are in continuous communication with the station managers of the airlines and the IDAC, who will determine if operations should be temporarily paused due to weather conditions.
Preventive measures
The company's Communications Director, Luis López Mena, detailed the preventative measures, which include:
- Identifying vulnerable areas
- Light aircraft mooring
- Preventive maintenance
- Cleaning of filters, roofs and drains
- Lifting and removal of light debris
- Tree pruning
- The activation of the Hurricane Command from where all activities are coordinated during the passage of the storm.
There are no cancelled flights
As of this time, no flight cancellations have been reported due to the storm. Aerodom will continue to keep travelers informed, through its social media channels and website, about the storm's progress, as well as any flight changes or cancellations related to Franklin.
