SANTO DOMINGO.– Claudia Castillo values the fact that the Dominican Republic has a law to regulate real estate brokerage because the current situation of the real estate market demands that its actors be properly identified as career professionals and licensed to avoid problems.
The former president of the Association of Real Estate Agents and Companies (AEI) points out that the association has been attempting to regulate the real estate sector for over 30 years. "I believe it has been the only professional association that has publicly advocated for regulation, which is positive for everyone," she commented in response to questions for El Inmobiliario.
He explained that at this crucial moment, where the real estate market is experiencing a boom and significant growth, the players must be properly identified as career professionals with licenses to avoid problems.
Castillo said that in the past several proposals have been presented at different times, which have expired or have not been viable, but that the current one is excellent and very complete.
He noted that he has viewed very positively the current interest of the actors that make up the decision-making stage, such as the deputies and other important groups that have participated in the meetings held to reach a consensus on the legislative piece.

“The proposed law includes aspects that are very well evaluated, training and licensing to practice, responsibilities, sanctions, supervision by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), the importance of belonging to the guild, an ethics committee; I think it is the most complete proposal of all,” Castillo said.
He said that as a professional in the housing sector he has always been committed to good practices, order, and ethics, and that he was part of the National Housing Bank team for 22 years, always supporting the private real estate sector.
He opined that the proposal should receive the support of all sectors because it is a general desire of the actors as independent agents and companies that are committed to working in order and according to the rules.
“Like all paths, we have had ups and downs in this matter, but the Association is definitely in a moment of great strength because in addition to the companies already established for years, new agents and companies register immediately and are trained in our CBR which allows them to practice with professional guidelines.”.
