The multinational company Cemex Dominicana announced the inauguration of a 1,500-gallon water reservoir as part of its comprehensive water conservation strategy. The project provides support to municipal authorities in San Pedro de Macorís in responding to emergencies.
Juan Gabriel Rijo, Director of Operations for Cemex Caribbean Cluster (Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico), said that the company is committed to safety and sustainability, and that, aware of the impacts of climate change and the limitation of water resources, "this water reservoir will not only serve as an effective measure for addressing contingencies, together with local authorities, but will also be established as a key element in the responsible management of water.".
The executive also expressed his enthusiasm for "the successful completion of this project" and highlighted Cemex's ongoing commitment to industrial safety, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.
A press release indicates that the initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration with the municipal authorities of San Pedro de Macorís, including the Fire Department and Civil Defense, as well as with private sector companies located in the area surrounding Cemex's operations that require support and need the natural resource.
For access to the reservoir's resources, a specific use protocol has been developed, and it will be positioned as an essential ally to face emergency situations and contribute to risk mitigation.
According to the press release, the system has two water pumps with a capacity of 750 gallons per minute and will be managed on request, complying with the assistance protocol in cases of contingency in which the Fire Department and Civil Defense or other private companies near the Cemex operation area require the resource.
