SANTO DOMINGO.- Amid efforts to reduce traffic accidents in the country, a new awareness campaign seeks to reinforce road safety education among drivers, especially those who travel on motorcycles, one of the most vulnerable groups on Dominican roads.
The initiative includes an audiovisual message featuring former Major League Baseball player Nelson Cruz, who urges drivers to reflect on the importance of respecting traffic laws and driving responsibly.
In the video, Cruz makes a direct appeal to motorcyclists to wear helmets, respect speed limits, and obey traffic signs, reminding them that a reckless decision can have fatal consequences for both the driver and other road users.
The campaign is part of the awareness actions promoted by the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (INTRANT), an institution that seeks to strengthen the culture of prevention and responsibility on the country's roads.
According to information released by INTRANT and the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, these initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed at promoting road safety education and reducing the high incidence of traffic accidents, particularly among motorcyclists.
Authorities have repeatedly stated that education and public awareness are fundamental tools for changing driving habits and promoting greater responsibility on public roads.
The audiovisual material also had the creative support of Dominican filmmaker Archie López, who collaborated in the production of the message with the aim of expanding its reach and achieving a greater impact among the population.
With these types of campaigns, institutions linked to traffic seek to strengthen prevention efforts and promote a cultural change that contributes to improving road safety in the Dominican Republic.
