As part of its commitment to the country's art and culture, Banco Popular Dominicano made a contribution of RD$20 million to the General Directorate of Museums to support the development of the new Museum of History and Traditions project in Santiago de los Caballeros.
This donation is aimed at preserving collective memory and continuing to strengthen the network of museums in the Dominican Republic, as one of the central pillars to maintain the momentum of the nation's cultural sector.
On behalf of Banco Popular, José Mármol, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, Reputation and Responsible Banking, expressed the financial organization's satisfaction in participating in this collaboration.
“With this contribution, we reinforce our commitment to human development, culture and education in our country, and we are especially excited that it will be used for a museum to protect and safeguard the rich heritage and valuable history of Santiago de los Caballeros, a city that is at the origin of Banco Popular Dominicano.”.
On behalf of the General Directorate of Museums, its director, Carlos Andújar Persinal, thanked Popular for this donation, which he described as "a significant gesture to promote museum culture in the Dominican Republic," emphasizing that it also represents an investment in the future of tourism in the region.

The delivery of this contribution took place at the facilities of the new Taíno Cultural Center Casa del Cordón, an initiative of the Banco Popular Dominicano within the framework of its 60th anniversary, which also contributes to Dominican museum culture, highlighting the first Taíno collection in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, donated by the García Arévalo Foundation, in an emblematic colonial building, considered the first two-level stone house in all of America.
Attending the handover ceremony for this contribution on behalf of Banco Popular were Ms. Mariel Bera, Vice President of Corporate Relations and Responsible Banking, and Ms. Sailyn Aybar, Projects and Alliances Manager; as well as Ms. María Belissa Ramírez de Zaiek, Director of the Museum of Heroes of the Restoration; Ms. Leticia Espinal, representative of the Santiago Museum Volunteers; and Ms. Ydalia Martínez, in charge of Planning and Development at the General Directorate of Museums.
About the museum
The Santiago History and Traditions Museum project emerges as a vital initiative to preserve, exhibit and celebrate the rich cultural and historical tapestry of one of the most emblematic and vibrant cities in the Dominican Republic.
The museography of this new cultural space highlights four key elements: the historical roots of the first Santiago in America since its founding, the political role of the city as the cradle of liberal thought in the country, the attachment to the landscapes of the territory, its customs and regional values, and the immersion in the traditions that make up local identities.
Additionally, the museum space will feature a room dedicated to the figure of Don Alejandro E. Grullón E., founder and President Ad Vitam of Banco Popular Dominicano and its parent company Grupo Popular, in which his status as a citizen of Santiago will be highlighted, as well as his contributions to the economic, social and cultural development of the country.
The museum will be located in the current INPOSDOM building in Santiago, in the neoclassical style, at the intersection of Del Sol and San Luis streets.
