David Collado confirmed yesterday, Monday, that the arrival of tourists in October of this year exceeds by 119,582 visitors that of the same month in 2019 and 2018.
SANTO DOMINGO– Five million, eight hundred twenty-six thousand, seventy-eight tourists visited the country in the first ten months of this year, generating more than seven billion dollars. Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, the Dominican Republic broke records for visitor arrivals in October, registering a historic 491,787 tourists last month, surpassing the same period in 2019 by 32%.
Tourism Minister David Collado confirmed yesterday, Monday, that tourist arrivals in October of this year exceeded those of the same month in 2019 and 2018 by 119,582 visitors.
“We did it again, and how, with the arrival of 119,582 more tourists than in 2019. It is the second consecutive October that we have broken records, something truly historic,” Collado stated when presenting, as every month, the figures on the behavior of tourism.
He reported that during the period January-October, the country received 5,826,078 tourists arriving by air.
Cruises
The cruise industry is also registering remarkable growth, with 88,178 arrivals in October.
Amber Cove surpassed the arrival of passengers in October with 49,342, followed by Taíno Bay with 26,100 in 11 operations, La Romana Port with 10,589 and Sans Soucí Port, 2,147 in 13 tourist ship operations.
In addition to the 894,419 cruise ship tourists, between January and October 2022, 6.72 million visitors arrived in the Dominican Republic by air and sea.
He stated that in October alone, the arrival of visitors generated more than 517 million in foreign currency.
“This means that in the first 10 months of this year, the arrival of visitors contributed $7.278 billion to our economy,” the official said.
Hotel occupancy
With 90% room availability, overall hotel occupancy was 64 percent, with the Romana-Bayahibe destination reaching 81%, Bávaro-Punta Cana 68%, Samaná 61%, Boca Chica-Juan Dolio 54%, and Greater Santo Domingo 60% hotel occupancy.
Minister Collado indicated that this year will end with the arrival of more than 7 million tourists and with revenues exceeding 8 billion dollars.
