Aerodom reports that air traffic at Puerto Plata airport will be suspended for 10 days

SANTO DOMINGO.- From May 8th to 17th, air traffic will be suspended at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata, to carry out the second and final phase of the repair and remodeling work on runways 08 and 26 of that airport terminal.

Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) explained that the work will be carried out with the objective and "commitment to maintain the highest operational safety standards at the airport.".

The track will be closed from 12:00 midnight on Monday, May 8, 2023 until Wednesday, May 17 at 11:59 a.m.

These works involve an investment of more than US$4.5 million, "with which the useful life of the runway will be extended, the operating conditions of the aircraft will be improved, as well as correcting the leveling of slabs in the central section of the runway.".

Similarly, Aerodom highlighted that these works will allow the continued reception of wide-body aircraft without restrictions, which favors the expansion of flights between Puerto Plata and Europe, as well as other long-distance destinations.

“As we announced in 2022, we will be carrying out the second and final phase of this important project in May of this year, which will improve the runway conditions in Puerto Plata and extend its lifespan,” Aerodom stated.
