SANTO DOMINGO.– “To strengthen and revitalize the sector, contribute to growth and lower airfare costs,” is what President Luis Abinader believes the Dominican Republic's Civil Aviation Promotion and Competitiveness Law would generate, and he has therefore asked legislators for the urgent approval of the bill currently before the Senate.
According to the president, the bill, which is in the hands of the National Congress, was approved by the working committees and is now expected to be passed in both chambers during this extraordinary legislative session.
“We ask the National Congress, both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, to take advantage of the extension of the current legislature to approve this bill as soon as possible,” the head of state said.
Abinader made his statements during an event held at Las Américas International Airport, where the airline Sky High announced its expansion plans for 2023, which include a fleet of four Embraer 190 aircraft with a capacity of 97 passengers.
Regarding the advantages of the project's approval, the president highlighted that it would give the Dominican Republic "a legal framework that guarantees the promotion of projects in the national civil aviation expansion sector.".
The legislative piece has, as its essential objective, to promote and increase the connectivity of civil aviation in the country, so that national airlines can develop and expand.
He also highlighted that this new law would contribute to establishing incentives for Dominican airlines to promote an increase in tourists to the country by air.
I would add that a new law would make it easier for airlines to establish new domestic and international routes to and from strategic markets that have the Dominican Republic as their destination.
