SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic celebrates Mother's Day 2024 today, Sunday, May 26th, a day that recognizes the role of motherhood in society, the sacrifices, dedication, and boundless devotion of those who can do anything when it comes to their children. El Inmobiliario interviewed five prominent women in the real estate sector last week.
We recap our impressions on two key aspects of the content: The meaning of motherhood and the threats that loom over raising children today.
Fanny De los Santos, general manager Quality Brokers RD (two children).

"The open access to information, the debauchery in public entertainment, the danger of the streets—the truth is, at times I feel like the world is upside down, but we always go with faith, surrendered to the Lord to guide our little ones," he responded regarding the threats he observes.
For her, being a mother "represents the most sublime expression of love she has ever experienced, 'giving life from my own life.' Being a mother means EVERYTHING to me. Ever since I had my first treasure, I've always wondered, 'Who gave life to whom?' My children inspire me, motivate me every day, and have guided me toward a path of unconditional love, dedication, discipline, and determination. They fill my days with joy."
Karina Gutiérrez, founding partner of Vetas Inmobiliaria (three children).

She believes that the main threats surrounding parenting today remain the same as when she raised her three now-adult children: "drugs, alcohol which is so permitted and at the same time so harmful, and now something new and super dangerous is added: social media which leads us all to spend more time on screens and live for appearances.".
Regarding motherhood, she replied: “It’s the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. It completes my life to know that I have raised three young people with values who can contribute to this society.”.
Alenny Garabito, general manager of TimeHomes Real Estate (one daughter).

According to Garabito, the threats currently endangering the upbringing of children and young people include social media, depression, apathy, lack of commitment, and neglect, among many other issues that surround us. "We are bombarded with too much information, and we must have clear answers to discuss these issues with our children. At the same time, we must manage and balance our own emotional, personal, and professional lives without negatively impacting our children's well-being.".
Being a mother for her represents responsibility, commitment, setting an example, "sometimes being stronger than I want to be, but thinking about how it will help me raise a determined woman in the future, with emotional intelligence, character, and of course, a happy and kind woman.".
Cristina Alba, real estate advisor at RE/MAX Metropolitana (two children)

"Raising children in today's society presents many challenges, due to various factors such as technology, social pressure, mental health, education, and personal development. The threats that parents face today range from excessive technology use and a lack of respect for values to the idolization of influencers who don't contribute values and who make easy money.".
For her, being a mother represents "a blessing and a commitment that God has given me.".
Ivelisse Arias, general manager of Remicasas (four children)

According to Arias, the greatest threat to children in today's society lies in social media and the negative influences of those around them.
“Being a mother is the greatest expression of selfless love that exists.”.
