SANTO DOMINGO.- President Luis Abinader yesterday, February 24, led the launch of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, which seeks to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion on the Duarte Highway, covering a distance of 7.3 kilometers from the María Montezstation to the Pablo Adón Guzmán station, at the entrance to Los Alcarrizos.
The project integrates civil and electromechanical works, 5 stations , a 6.5-kilometer marginal road parallel to the Duarte highway, and a 940-meter tunnel.
“Today, Los Alcarrizos is definitively connected to the heart of the city,” said President Luis Abinader.
It will connect 14 communities
Along its route, Line 2C will connect 14 communities in densely populated areas of Santo Domingo Oeste, allowing passengers to save up to two hours daily on round-trip travel during peak hours, improving their quality of life.
It is also estimated that users' transport expenses will decrease by up to 60%
The system will have the capacity to transport 15,000 passengers per hour in each direction for a total of 150,000 passengers per day.
A high-tech subway
The director of the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation, Jhael Isa, indicated that, based on this important project that completes the Integrated Transportation System, this city is interconnected with a metro system of the highest technology, with the highest levels of quality, and reaches the heart of its neighborhoods thanks to the integration with the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car.
Free transfer from February 25th until Easter
In this first stage, the line will be operating free of charge from Wednesday, February 25th until Easter, with a special schedule from Monday to Friday mornings, from 6:00 am to 10:00 am, and afternoons, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
On Saturdays, it will operate from 6:00 am to 10:00 am, and in the afternoons from noon to 4:00 pm. On Sundays and holidays, it will operate from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Five seasons
The five stations are: Pedro Martínez, located on the Duarte highway at the corner of Los Beisbolistas avenue, in Manoguayabo; Franklin Mieses Burgos, on the Duarte highway at the corner of Monumental avenue; 27 de Febrero, located at kilometer 13 near the Prolongación 27 de Febrero; Freddy Gatón Arce, located at kilometer 14, near the pedestrian bridge, and station 5, Pablo Adón Guzmán, at the entrance to Los Alcarrizos, connecting with the cable car.
Isa stated that, in terms of mobility, Line 2C represents the largest expansion of service ever recorded in the history of the integrated mass transit system, because it will serve a community of more than 500,000 direct beneficiaries, with a demand of more than 150,000 passengers per day.
"That is to say, the Metro, which today moves 400,000 users a day, with the Metro, the Cable Car and the feeder routes, would reach close to 650,000 users, bringing us closer to our goal of one million users, with the greatest projected demand growth in the entire transport network of the city of Santo Domingo.".

The Integrated Transportation System of Santo Domingo is an urban mobility model that integrates various modes of public transportation, such as the Metro, cable car, buses, and trams, under a single plan, with a unified fare and technology. Its main objective is to improve the efficiency, speed, and safety of passenger journeys, while reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
At this stage, the SIT Sto. Dgo. includes the physical and fare integration of different mass transport modes that include the urban corridors of Núñez de Cáceres, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle and Independencia avenues.
