SANTO DOMINGO– Renowned lawyer Reyna Echeniquemade a strong appeal to real estate agents to strengthen their legal training to ensure greater legal security in market transactions.
During his participation in the program La Ventana de El Inmobiliario, Echenique revealed the reasons that gave rise to his first book “Real Estate from a Legal Point of View”, a practical guide that condenses the fundamental legal aspects that every real estate advisor should know.
“This book was born with the vision of democratizing legal knowledge in the Dominican Republic's real estate sector. Lawyers know the law, but they don't always understand the business. And agents know the business, but often they don't know the law,” Echenique said, highlighting the importance of the work.
Written in plain language and enriched with real-life cases, legal advice, and terminology, this text is designed specifically for real estate agents, buyers, sellers, and investors, both local and international. It covers topics such as due diligence, the legal foundations of buying and selling real estate, and the legal implications of the buyer's marital status.
Echenique emphasized that, in an era of informed and demanding clients, agents who don't invest in their professional development risk falling behind. “Many rely on belonging to a large real estate umbrella, but few truly invest in education. And those who don't invest today will regret it tomorrow. Because a client buys from you once, but they won't return if they don't feel confident,” he warned.
The author noted that the sector is experiencing a “crisis of credibility” that makes it essential to offer advice backed by legal foundations . “The real estate business isn't just financial; it's a business that relies on legal certainty. The risk comes from not knowing what you're doing. That's why education isn't an option, it's a necessity,” she stated.
In addition to national agents, Echenique reported that the work, which took more than five years of research and consultation of more than 80 laws, review and includes an analysis updated to 2025, has captured the interest of Dominican professionals abroad and foreign investors from countries such as Romania, Brazil, Puerto Rico and the United States, interested in knowing the legal framework to acquire properties in the Dominican Republic.
Reyna Echenique, who shares her legal expertise every Sunday in her column in El Inmobiliario, concluded with a powerful reflection: “If you’re going to invest your money and time in real estate, the least you can do is educate yourself.
