The delegations will complete a technical agenda focused on strengthening data management and strategies to reduce road accidents
SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic will host this week the eighth edition of the Ibero-American Meeting on Data and Road Safety of OISEVI, organized by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), an initiative that will bring together representatives from 14 countries in an agenda focused on the exchange of experiences, strengthening data management and building strategies to reduce road accidents.
The official opening of the meeting will be held this Wednesday, May 20, at 8:30 a.m. at the Convention Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), marking the beginning of a regional agenda that will extend until May 23 and will position the country as a meeting point for technical exchange and international cooperation in road safety, according to a press release from the Presidency.
During the meeting, technical delegations from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic will participate, completing meetings, working groups and cooperation spaces focused on statistical analysis, monitoring and strengthening of information systems to support evidence-based decision-making processes.
The press release states that participants will address topics related to institutional interoperability, data quality, and tools to improve analysis and monitoring processes, promoting the exchange of experiences and best practices among participating countries.
Reduce and prevent
Intrant's chief executive, Milton Morrison, highlighted the importance of using data as a tool to drive more effective policies.
“Saving lives begins long before we hit the streets. It begins with understanding the data, identifying risks, and transforming that information into concrete actions. Every piece of data, when used correctly, can become a tool to prevent tragedies and reduce road accidents,” Morrison said.
He also noted that this meeting strengthens regional cooperation and consolidates the Dominican Republic as a space for exchange and joint construction of solutions aimed at safer mobility.
The meeting also aims to foster cooperation among participating countries through the exchange of methodologies and tools that contribute to improving data quality and generating more effective decisions. This edition is expected to consolidate more efficient information systems and promote new joint actions that will positively impact road safety in the region.
Institutional support and strategic allies
The activity has the support of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Aerodom and the Dominican Institute for Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (Idoppril).
It also receives support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), an organization that promotes initiatives aimed at the prevention and protection of life in the region, among other entities.
