SANTO DOMINGO– Vice President Raquel Peña highlighted that construction continues to be a pillar of the country's economic growth, noting that in the second quarter of this year alone, the sector contributed 12.7% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reflecting the dynamism of the industry.
“Behind that 12.7% there are thousands of hands working, hundreds of companies that are committed to our country, and communities that are transforming their environment,” Peña emphasized during the 9th National Housing Roundtable, held this Tuesday by the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Promoters (ACOPROVI).
The vice president said that construction not only generates housing, but also employment and development opportunities for professionals, contractors and companies.
He emphasized that construction fosters social development. “It is a starting point for Dominican families to grow with dignity, stability, and dreams that become a true future of hope,” he stated.
Public-private collaboration strengthens the industry
Raquel Peña called for strengthening the alliance between the public and private sectors, with modern housing policies that improve access to housing and boost the economy. “The expansion of public infrastructure, investment in urban mobility, and community-centered projects are examples of this vision in action,” she noted.
“Every project, every investment, and every public-private partnership consolidates the sector as an engine of opportunity, employment, and social transformation. With every action, we are building a fairer, more inclusive, and more prosperous country,” he concluded, noting that the industry's growth is growth for the entire nation.
