Rainfall decreases: COE maintains only three provinces on green alert

The agency warns of moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and possible hail; it also recommends caution for vessels on the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains three provinces on green alert due to the influence of a trough at various levels of the troposphere, which, combined with the abundant moisture content over the Dominican territory, favors the formation of clouds with large vertical development.

The provinces under alert are Santiago, La Vega and Monseñor Nouel, where authorities are urging the population to stay tuned to official bulletins and take preventive measures against possible floods and flash floods.

According to the bulletin from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, very strong gusts of wind in isolated areas and possible hailstorms are expected during the afternoon.

These conditions could occur mainly in areas of the Central Mountain Range, the Cibao Valley, the border area, and the northern and northeastern regions of the country.

Provinces on green alert

Meteorology maintains a green alert for the following districts: Santiago, La Vega and Monseñor Nouel

The preventative alert aims to ensure that residents of these provinces remain attentive to the evolution of weather conditions and follow the recommendations of civil protection agencies.

Caution is advised on the coasts

Regarding maritime conditions, Indomet recommends that operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels navigate with caution on both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts.

The warning is due to the possible reduction in visibility caused by downpours, lightning and gusts of wind, as well as locally high waves.

COE urges people to avoid rivers and swimming areas

Given the expected weather conditions, the COE recommends that the public refrain from crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels, due to the risk of flash floods.

It also urges people not to use the resorts located in the provinces under alert as a preventive measure against possible dangerous situations.

Authorities reiterate the call to stay informed through official bulletins and to follow the guidance of emergency agencies while unstable atmospheric conditions persist.
