The project, which will be built on an area of 11,476.20 square meters, will include a playing field, bleachers, dugouts, restrooms, and irrigation and drainage systems to promote the sports development of children and young people in San Pedro de Macorís
SANTO DOMINGO. – With an investment of RD$26 million, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) began construction of a municipal baseball stadium in Consuelo, San Pedro de Macorís province, during a ceremony led by Minister Kelvin Cruz, who broke ground to formally begin the work.
The investment is intended to provide the municipality with adequate sports infrastructure for playing baseball, training new talent, and holding matches, especially benefiting children and young people interested in developing their athletic skills.
The project also addresses a community demand that, according to authorities, had been pending for approximately two decades. Consequently, the allocation of resources represents an important step toward realizing this aspiration of the residents and expanding sporting opportunities in the town.
The resources allocated by the Ministry of Sports will allow the development of a sports complex on an approximate surface area of 11,476.20 square meters, with facilities designed to facilitate the practice of baseball and offer better conditions to players and spectators.
The components included are the playing field, dugouts or rest areas for the players, restrooms for athletes and fans, bleachers and peripheral spaces.
In addition, the project will include a French irrigation and drainage system, important elements for the maintenance of the field and its proper use.
Similarly, the work will include the construction of sidewalks and curbs, a septic tank with a filter, general painting and complete electrical installations, in order to guarantee the necessary conditions for the operation of the premises.
Investment seeks to boost local sporting talent
Beyond the physical construction, the RD$26 million allocated to the stadium represents a commitment to the development of baseball in Consuelo and the creation of better opportunities for new generations.
In that context, the minister highlighted that having adequate facilities can foster the emergence of new sporting talents and help more young people advance to higher-level competitions.
Likewise, the facility will strengthen training and recreation activities, while offering the community a space to promote discipline, integration, and the positive use of free time.
The initiative adds to government efforts aimed at expanding sports infrastructure in different municipalities of the country, through projects that facilitate access for the population to spaces intended for physical exercise and competition.
Kelvin Cruz demands speed in the execution of the work
During the ceremony, the minister highlighted that the RD$26 million investment will allow the residents of Consuelo to have a stadium in appropriate condition for the development of sports and recreational activities.
“With this investment of 26 million pesos, we will have a stadium in perfect condition for the enjoyment of young people and the community. This project has been requested for many years, and today we are responding with the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern baseball stadium,” the official stated.
In that regard, Cruz urged the contracting company to maintain a steady pace of execution and avoid stoppages that could delay the completion of the project, considering that it is an infrastructure that the population has been waiting for for years.
“When we undertake a project, it’s because money is involved, so we don’t want one block today, another in three months, and then back again in two months. This is a case of ‘frying and eating,’ let them start the work and get it going,” he stated, insisting on the need to move forward without interruption until the work is completed.
Local authorities value the project
During the event, the mayor of Consuelo, Juan Padilla, and the governor of San Pedro de Macorís, Yovanis Baltasar, praised the start of construction and highlighted the importance of completing a project that residents had been demanding for years.
Both officials also thanked President Luis Abinader for supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening sports facilities in the province, considering that these contribute to generating opportunities for youth and promoting community development.
In this way, the new stadium is envisioned as a space intended to promote baseball and expand recreational options for the residents of the municipality.
The activity included the participation of the vice ministers of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Karilyn Chabebe and Fernando Teruel; the deputy director of the Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre), Odalis Vega; as well as legislators, councilors and community representatives.
