SANTO DOMINGO.- While the Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains 9 provinces, including the National District, under yellow alert, the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) announced the preventive suspension of classes for this Tuesday, October 27, in educational centers located in vulnerable communities of the provinces under yellow alert, due to the weather conditions caused by a trough that continues to bring rain to the national territory.
The institution explained that the measure seeks to prevent risky situations in schools exposed to flooding, located near rivers and ravines, coastal areas and areas prone to landslides, due to the climatic conditions that affect different demarcations of the country.
According to the situational report from the Directorate of Environmental and Risk Management of the Ministry of Education, local educational authorities have reported unfavorable conditions for the development of teaching, and therefore recommended adopting preventive suspension in educational centers exposed to risk situations.
The implementation of the measure must be coordinated with regional and district directors, taking into consideration the particular conditions of the affected areas and the identified risks, the Ministry of Education stated.
Regarding the educational regions under green alert, the institution reminded that, if the suspension of teaching outside of working hours is ordered, the corresponding educational authorities must guarantee the implementation of the established protocols for the protection of school resources.
Through the Environmental Management Directorate, the institution specified that it maintains constant monitoring of 11 educational regions located in the area of influence of the meteorological phenomenon.
