Banco Popular's automated processes reduce critical times by 84% and streamline customer service

SANTO DOMINGO.- Banco Popular Dominicano has been developing its Robotic Process Automation program since 2019, a transformation that, according to the entity, is reflected in more consistent and reliable services, with shorter response times and less need for corrections.

The Bank recently received the Transformational Excellence | Americas All-Star award at the SS&C Blue Prism Customer Excellence Awards 2026, after ranking among the most outstanding initiatives in the region for its advances in intelligent automation and digital transformation.

The financial organization highlights that in 2025, the implemented robotic automation reduced response times in certain critical bank processes by up to 84%, ensuring timely and higher quality responses, even during periods of high demand.

The award follows the recognition obtained in 2024, when SS&C Blue Prism distinguished its automation program in the Regional All-Stars Americas category of Transformational Excellence, explains Banco Popular in a press release.

He adds that in this edition of the SS&C Blue Prism 2026 awards, he received more than 1,000 applications and of these only 32 were winners, with Banco Popular Dominicano being the only one selected from Latin America.

Christopher Paniagua, CEO of Banco Popular, praised the award and noted that “intelligent automation, driven by robotics, has transformed our operational efficiency, expanding capabilities and consolidating our digital leadership.”

What is Robotic Process Automation?

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a set of software robots that mimic repetitive human tasks on computers, such as copying or moving data and filling out forms. They act as digital employees working 24/7, following precise rules that they have been previously trained on.

In a bank, their use is vital because they expedite massive operations in seconds, instead of hours, resulting in a reduction of internal operating expenses, which allows human employees to dedicate themselves to attending to or resolving more complex customer cases.

Measurable results of automation

El Popular has been developing its Robotic Process Automation program since 2019, when it started with three pilot processes, and has now surpassed 134 production processes, of which 40% are native digital processes.

During that period, this capability has been integrated into areas such as Operations, Risk, Business and Anti-Money Laundering, and has supported claims, international transfers, regulatory maintenance, mass corrections and the launch of new digital products and services.

The automation platform manages approximately 640,000 transactions per month and has accumulated 7.5 million transactions during the period measured by the organization. Furthermore, it has freed up 1.47 million work hours and fostered a culture of operational efficiency.
