In Madrid, Spain, President Luis Abinader participated yesterday, November 6, along with the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Jean Luis Rodríguez, in the inauguration ceremony of the real estate fair “Más Cerca de Casa” (Closer to Home), the first one held abroad under the organization of the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Promoters (Acoprovi).
The head of state indicated that this is a public-private initiative in favor of Dominicans abroad and that it demonstrates, once again, that the country has the corresponding financing and legal security institutions so that the diaspora can access housing in their homeland.
With the support of the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), the fair will provide guidance to the diaspora in Spain, a country with a significant Dominican community, so that they can evaluate the offers and offerors and acquire a property in a conscious and safe manner, the Presidency's note specifies.
Rodríguez announced that through the Vivienda Segura platform (viviendasegura.mibed.gov.de) citizens will be able to consult the registered companies and projects, their location, permits and technical and legal documentation, the progress of the work and the history of the verifications carried out.
Safe Housing Guide
The Safe Housing guide will explain in a simple way what documents should be reviewed before buying a home, depending on the stage the project is in, what documents should be requested, and what warning signs should be taken into account.
“The State must be a facilitator of development, always guaranteeing compliance with the law and the safety of people,” added the head of Mivhed.
This fair also demonstrates the strength of the construction sector and contributes to economic dynamism, generating jobs and attracting investment, he said.
“We want a Dominican Republic where construction is faster, investment is safer, and homeownership is a real opportunity for families in our country. That's why we are working to modernize permits, reduce bureaucracy, and strengthen the transparency of our institutions,” Rodríguez concluded.
Prevention of real estate fraud
For her part, Annerys Meléndez, president of Acoprovi, said they have worked diligently with the Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Housing (MIVHED) to prevent real estate fraud and instill confidence in the public. She also praised the creation of MIVHED and the enactment of the Rental Law during President Luis Abinader's administration, which strengthened the sector.
“Closer to Home”
The business meeting is being held as part of Dominican Week in Spain, with the participation of 21 construction and development companies, 6 real estate agents, and 4 financial institutions. It is expected to draw more than 1,500 attendees between Friday, November 6, and Sunday, November 8, the event's closing day.
Among those present were the Dominican ambassador to Spain, Tony Raful; the Dominican consul in Madrid, José Marte Piantini; and Manuel Garcia Troncoso, president of the Dominican Week in Spain (SEDE), among other personalities.
