SANTO DOMINGO.-With the aim of continuing to strengthen security levels in the country's tourist destinations, the Director General of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, held a strategic meeting yesterday, Friday, with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
The meeting, which also included General Minouru Matsunaga, central director of the Tourist Police (Politur), reviewed the strategies implemented to raise security levels in the country's main tourist destinations.
In addition, the impact of current measures was reviewed and new initiatives to ensure the peace of mind and safety of visitors were discussed.
The meeting was held in the "Country Brand Foundation" hall, where, among other things, it was decided to increase the number of officers in the areas previously identified as priorities. Likewise, it was agreed to increase the exchange of information between the various agencies responsible for citizen security, including the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Collado, Major General Guzmán Peralta, and General Matsunaga reaffirmed their commitment to working together to maintain the Dominican Republic as a safe and reliable tourist destination.
They agreed on the importance of cooperation between institutions to achieve these objectives, highlighting that security is a fundamental priority for the development and sustainability of the tourism sector.
“Strengthening security in tourist destinations is a responsibility and a decision of the Tourism Cabinet headed by the President of the Republic (Luis Abinader); while in other countries of the region their security is deteriorating and affected, in the Dominican Republic we are reinforcing it and we have the lowest levels of crime and crime in the entire region and tourist destinations,” said Minister David Collado.
Meanwhile, Major General Guzmán Peralta emphasized that “by order of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, we are gathered to review everything related to citizen security in tourist areas nationwide, in order to continue strengthening the security standards that have been demonstrated so far.”.
Also participating in this meeting were the heads of various departments related to citizen security in tourist areas and their surroundings.
