Earthquake in Venezuela: 589 dead and nearly 3,000 injured

In their report this Friday morning, Venezuelan authorities revealed that so far there are 589 dead and around 3,000 injured, due to the earthquakes that affected the South American country last Wednesday, currently immersed in a tragedy with collapsed buildings, missing persons and aftershocks that have not stopped, generating constant panic in the population.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the death toll rose from 235 on Thursday to 589 on Friday morning, during a meeting with senior military and civilian officials broadcast on state television. 

Several countries have arrived in that country to help in the rescue efforts, one of them the Military Emergency Unit (UME) of Spain, with 59 personnel, 8 specialized dogs and first aid equipment, while the authorities reported that firefighters expert in rescues in collapsed structures will be traveling today.

Along with the tasks of removing debris and rescuing people, the Venezuelan government is carrying out a survey of the condition of the buildings damaged by the earthquake that did not collapse and which are estimated to number more than 200.
