SANTO DOMINGO – The final stages of construction at Parque del Este are beginning to set the pace for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, with several sports facilities practically complete and others progressing rapidly. This was evident during a supervisory tour led by the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Víctor Ito Bisonó.
According to information released by the Presidency, the sports complex, one of the main venues for these competitions, is at a key stage where the focus is no longer just on construction, but on the timely delivery of functional and high-level infrastructure.
Among the most significant advances are the archery and weightlifting pavilions, which have already been completed, while the gymnastics and table tennis facilities are in their final phase, with 98% of the work finished, according to the minister. This level of progress positions Parque del Este as one of the most advanced projects within the set of works related to the games.
At the same time, work continues in strategic areas such as the handball pavilion, the skating rink, the amphitheater and the outdoor spaces, which are part of a comprehensive intervention designed not only for the competition, but also for the urban and sporting legacy that the adaptation process will leave.
Beyond the schedule, the constant oversight reflects the State's commitment to ensuring that each facility meets international standards and is prepared to receive delegations from more than 30 nations. In this regard, Minister Bisonó has reiterated the importance of maintaining continuous technical monitoring to allow for the correction, adjustment, and optimization of each phase of the construction process.
The transformation of Parque del Este not only aims to be a showcase during the games, but also to consolidate itself as a modern and accessible sports space for the public, reinforcing public infrastructure and increasing the country's capacity to host large-scale sporting events in the future.
