INDOMET forecasts rainfall with accumulations that could range between 50 and 75 millimeters in the areas under alert
SANTO DOMINGO – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the alert level to green on Sunday to 10 provinces and the National District due to the influence of an active tropical wave located over Puerto Rico. This weather system has gradually increased humidity in the air mass and is maintaining northeasterly winds that are generating downpours, thunderstorms, and possible gusts of wind.
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) also forecasts rainfall accumulations of 50 to 75 millimeters in the areas under alert. These rains could cause urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas and along roads.
The provinces that are on green alert are Samaná, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, La Romana, El Seibo, La Altagracia, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez and Santo Domingo, in addition to the National District.
INDOMET Recommendations
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) informed the public about the maritime conditions expected for the next 24 to 72 hours.
On the Atlantic coast, from Cabo Engaño to Cabo Francés Viejo, it is recommended that operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels remain in port due to adverse sea conditions.
Meanwhile, from Isla Saona to Cabo Engaño, it urges people to navigate close to the coastal perimeter and avoid venturing out to sea, due to the presence of abnormal winds and waves.
In this regard, authorities recommend that the public refrain from crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels, and avoid activities that could endanger their safety during the rainy season.
