Argos Dominicana: first cement company to receive Gender Equality Seal

SANTO DOMINGO- Argos, a cement and concrete producer and distributor with over 27 years of experience on the island, was recognized by the Ministry of Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the "Equalizing RD" seal in the bronze category.

Furthermore, thanks to its commitment to promoting and implementing initiatives that leverage equity and closing gender gaps, it positioned itself as the first organization in the sector to obtain it.

“We are extremely proud to receive this certification again, which recognizes the transformation of our company and our organizational culture. Diversity at Argos represents a competitive advantage and a driving force to continue being regional and global leaders in best practices that aim to enable a more inclusive society,” stated Jorge David Pérez, CEO of Argos Dominicana.

On this occasion, more than 20 companies were evaluated in the dimensions: management and organization; work-life balance and co-responsibility; recruitment and selection of personnel; professional development; remuneration and compensation; work environment, health and quality of life; harassment, sexual and workplace harassment; and internal and external communication, highlights a press release from the company.

“Today we reaffirm that we are on the right track and that our purpose of enabling a more inclusive society is being realized thanks to our talent and commitment. We will continue taking concrete steps and implementing exemplary actions to further solidify Argos as a great place to work.”.

Melba Nin, Director of People at Argos in the Caribbean, said that the Seal has been implemented since 2013 as a public policy to mainstream the approach of equal rights and opportunities in business management, based on the global and regional initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

It proposes a management model for gender equality that seeks to universalize good organizational practices, eliminate cultural and organizational barriers, guarantee gender equality, and achieve workplaces free of violence, among other issues. Furthermore, it allows companies to obtain certification from the Dominican Institute of Quality (INDOCAL) through NORDOM 775.

The Seal process in companies is carried out by a team made up of allies from the Ministry of Women and the UNDP.
