SANTO DOMINGO- Arajet, the Dominican airline that promotes itself as low-cost, announced today the start of its operations to Cancun in Mexico.
"This directly connects the two strongest tourist destinations in the Caribbean and Central America, which together represent more than 30 million tourists," the company said in a press release.
The Dominican airline started with three weekly flights to connect the Mexican Caribbean region with the Dominican Republic, strengthen trade and tourism ties, and increase the flow of visitors between the two cities.
“Cancun is one of Arajet’s main destinations and represents an opportunity to continue opening the doors of the Caribbean and contribute to the region’s economic dynamism with the continuous exchange of visitors, who will be able to complement their travel experience in the area, as well as easily connect with more than 20 destinations in 12 countries, through a value proposition based on affordable costs, safe and environmentally friendly aircraft, and an onboard experience characterized by the warm treatment of the Dominican people,” commented Victor Pacheco, CEO and president of Arajet.
With three weekly flights (Tuesdays and Fridays, departing from Santo Domingo at 6:40 p.m. and arriving at 8:30 p.m., and Sundays, departing at 5:20 p.m. and arriving in Cancun at 7:15 p.m.), travelers in Cancun will have more flight options to connect with the Caribbean region and enjoy the vast tourist offerings of the Dominican Republic, Arajet said.
The initial offer prices start at $185 round trip, taxes included, during October, and from $287 starting in November.
The airline reported that, with this inaugural flight to Cancun, it opens its third route in Mexico, in addition to Mexico City, which has three frequencies from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (Monday, Thursday and Saturday), and Monterrey, with two weekly frequencies available from General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (Tuesday and Friday).
Starting in September, Arajet also began operations in Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Aruba, Saint Martin and Guatemala; and by December, it will expand its offering from two more cities in Colombia: Bogotá and Medellín.
