Airbnb announced the launch of a new program to prevent disturbances to neighbors, through which noise detectors will be installed to alert guests and hosts if normal noise levels are exceeded.
Thanks to the alliance with the technology company Minut, hosts in more than 60 countries and regions will have the opportunity to receive a free noise sensor and three months of free subscription to the facilitating firm's noise and occupancy control service.
A statement from the digital platform indicates that the measure will be accompanied by the integration of Minut's noise alerts and Airbnb's messaging tool to help resolve potential disturbances between hosts and guests more quickly and smoothly.
It argues that although incidents on the platform are infrequent, measures such as sensors can help guests be aware of the noise that may be generated and help hosts detect and prevent problems before they start.
"While the vast majority of Airbnb hosts and guests are respectful neighbors and travelers, Airbnb is working on solutions to avoid unwanted behavior and help prevent problems before they arise," the company said.
He adds that these automated measures were implemented by Airbnb two years ago in Spain to enforce the global ban on parties, a system focused on guests under 25 years of age without a history of positive reviews who try to book in the same place where they reside.
"These sensors respect guest privacy, as the devices only alert you if the decibel level exceeds a certain threshold, and they do not record or transmit sounds or conversations. It notes that the integration of Minut's noise alerts with Airbnb's messaging tool means that if a device detects that the noise in an apartment exceeds the decibel level set by the host, Minut can send an automatic notification through Airbnb's messaging tool to inform the host and guest.
He adds that a recent pilot project in Prague allowed Airbnb hosts to test Minut's noise sensors, and it was found that a reminder can be all it takes to quickly resolve a potential noise issue, as hosts and guests can resolve 100% of noise alerts between them within 20 minutes of detection.
