SANTO DOMINGO – The renovation of the Dominican capital's main airport, designed to meet the growing number of visitors to the Dominican Republic, continues. Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) announced the contracting of Ingeniería Estrella for the rehabilitation of its main runway, a project that, according to the press release, will exceed US$20 million.
“As part of our commitment to operational safety and the modernization of Dominican airport infrastructure, we have selected Ingeniería ESTRELLA as the main contractor for the rehabilitation and major maintenance of runway 17-35 at Las Américas International Airport (AILA), in a project exceeding US$20 million,” Aerodom explained. The
company stated that the work—which includes milling, paving, and rigorous quality controls—is scheduled to take place over five months, between April and August, ensuring the complete continuity of operations through the temporary use of Taxiway Juliet as an alternate runway.
It adds that upon completion, the main runway will have a minimum lifespan of 15 years under optimal operating conditions.
The information states that technical supervision will be provided by Concremat, and that the project will adhere to the highest international quality standards, aligned with Vinci Airports' vision of operating world-class infrastructure.
It details that this project is part of the AILA expansion program, which includes the construction of a new terminal with capacity for an additional four million passengers, representing an investment of over US$350 million planned for the second half of 2028.
The contract was signed by Cyril Girot, CEO of Aerodom, and Manuel Estrella of Grupo Estrella.
