NAVARRETE.- The Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) delivered 158 provisional titles in this municipality of Santiago to the same number of families who will occupy the AC-612 peasant settlement, lands that were captured through Law 126 on Public Water Ownership.

The event was led by the general director of the IAD, Francisco Guillermo García, who said that, with the delivery of this new settlement, the institution promotes the development of these families, who have been occupying it peacefully for more than a decade.

García said that from this moment on, the farmers will be able to harvest tobacco, vegetables, and papaya without any fear. They also have plans to cultivate pitahaya, soursop, guava, cherry, oregano, among others.

"Today you come to receive this benefit, and from the moment you receive it, you will no longer just be farmers, but you will become small agricultural entrepreneurs, and the idea is that you cultivate the land to generate the economic resources you need to support your families," said the general director of the IAD.

He urged the farmers to work, as that will guarantee them the delivery of their definitive titles by President Luis Abinader.

He recalled that this settlement has an approximate area of 3,168 acres of land for the benefit of some 840 people of the Agrarian Reform.

Meanwhile, the president of the Association of Landless Farmers of Navarrete, Freddy Antonio Rodríguez, gave thanks on behalf of all the beneficiaries and said that he made the dream of hundreds of farmers who have been waiting for this opportunity for 16 years come true.

He said that, with this new government, the doors were opened to farmers, and especially to the head of the IAD, Francisco Guillermo García, since they see in him a person committed to the development of the countryside.

The event took place at the Villa Bisonó Recreational Club and was attended by the governor of Valverde, Daysi Aquino; and the mayor of Esperanza, Freddy Rodríguez.
