Tourism begins street reconstruction work in Puerto Plata

SAN FELIPE, PUERTO PLATA.- Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the reconstruction work on the streets of the historic center of this municipality yesterday, Wednesday, with an investment of nearly 80 million pesos.

The project consists of the reconstruction of the streets, sidewalks and curbs of the town center of the municipality, directly impacting local residents of the city, as well as tourists, mainly cruise ship passengers who disembark at the tourist ports of Amber Cove and Taino Bay.

Collado highlighted the investments and works delivered during his administration to strengthen the tourist destination and those that are in the planning stages, such as the rehabilitation of Sosúa beach and the remodeling of the iconic Puerto Plata cable car.

"These interventions will mark a turning point for this entire historic city center. Puerto Plata's moment has definitely arrived," said the Minister of Tourism.

This road project in San Felipe will be managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) at a total cost of RD$79,855,074.95.

The sections to be intervened correspond to the Juan Escaño Avenues (Old Railway Line); Restauración Street Extension (Connection Juancho Escaño Avenue and Caamaño Street).

It also includes the streets Antera Mota, Luis Espinosa, 30 de Marzo, Los Jazmines San Felipe and Calle Aserradero.

In addition, work will be carried out on Avenida 27 de Febrero, El Morro streets and Cardenal Sancha.

Juan Escaño Avenue (Old Railway Line) will be remodeled over a length of 751 meters and February 27th Avenue over a section of 834 meters.

Meanwhile, El Morro street will be renovated along a 1,020-meter stretch and Cardenal Sancha street along a 934-meter stretch.

The project includes the reconstruction of 9,318 linear meters of curb and 17,256 square meters of sidewalk, including the resurfacing of three road axes by applying a new 2” asphalt concrete layer to the road.
