Recommendations for the care of faucets

The key to maintaining faucets is keeping them clean, which includes drying water residue after each use. A microfiber cloth is recommended for this. Drying will help prevent water components from settling and staining the surface.

One of the common concerns in homes is the care of faucets, which often change color and become cloudy, sometimes regardless of their quality. Excessive use of detergents and household cleaning products is one of the most frequent causes of this deterioration.

We offer you some recommendations to help you take care of this important accessory, indispensable in every home.

To keep faucets in good condition, it is recommended to give them regular maintenance, which will help prevent the formation of sediment and rust that can damage the finish of the parts and their proper functioning. Whether we are talking about faucets installed in the kitchen or in the bathroom, the lack of continuous cleaning and certain basic care will eventually damage them and cause dripping problems, which will require more maintenance and in some cases their replacement with a new one.

The key to maintaining faucets is cleanliness, which includes drying water residue after each use. A microfiber cloth is ideal for this. Drying helps prevent water components from settling and staining the surface. Salt and limescale are the main elements that damage faucets, so it's essential to avoid liquid buildup. This damage will first manifest as a loss of shine, and later, rust and breakage.

In addition to drying after each use, regular cleaning is necessary. For this, it is not recommended to use abrasive products containing ammonia and acids, as these can damage the surface, especially on faucets with chrome finishes. Using scouring pads, detergents, solvents, and polishes is also not recommended. A mixture of soap and water may be sufficient to clean the surface; simply rinse it afterward to remove all residue.

If it is necessary to use disinfectants, especially on bathroom faucets, it is recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions and dissolve the product in water, avoiding pouring it directly onto the surface, as this could damage the material and shorten its lifespan. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly and dry.

If you will not be using the faucets for long periods of time, or if your home is located near the beach, it is recommended that you spray them with silicone spray and wrap them with plastic, and pour a little oil into the drain to prevent the water seal from evaporating and bad odors from seeping from the pipes.

The blog hy states that cleaning the filter or screen is also extremely important and will allow the water to flow correctly. "The filter in a faucet is located at the end of the spout and its function is to trap any materials that the water may contain. If we don't clean this part, the faucet will become clogged and the water flow will be reduced. To clean the screen or filter, we need to disassemble the part from the faucet body; we will do this using a wrench," it explains.

One of the parts most easily damaged is where the faucet body connects to the pipe, mainly due to limescale buildup. To clean it, it's recommended to use a mixture of soap and water or a descaling agent, applied with a sponge. If leaks occur in this area, it may be necessary to replace the part, especially if its components are worn or rusted. Regularly checking the condition of your faucets will help you promptly replace worn parts with new ones, so you don't have to replace the entire system.

"We also recommend, as preventative measures against the deterioration of your faucets, that you choose high-quality parts and pay special attention to their installation process. Faucets with washers, for example, tend to leak more than cartridge faucets, and materials like brass and copper are much more durable and functional.".

Regarding installation, faucets can usually be installed by the user, but factors such as compatibility with the plumbing system, which varies in size and materials, must be considered. Similarly, when adjusting the faucets, care should be taken not to overtighten the nuts, as forcing them could cause damage.

By following these recommendations, your faucets will remain in good condition for much longer.
