Miches bets on international luxury with JW Marriott and US$500 million in investment

MADRID, SPAIN. – Miches once again took center stage at FITUR 2026. On the second day of the fair, the destination made one of the most important announcements in its recent history: a US$500 million investment for the development of two luxury hotels under the JW Marriott and Autograph Collection brands, accompanied by a high-end residential component.

The announcement was made by Tourism Minister David Collado, along with investors and the president of Asonahores, Juan Bancalari. According to the minister, this transaction confirms that Miches is “a new destination that has grown in the fastest and most organic way” within the Dominican Republic's tourism landscape.

The investment will begin with an initial phase of US$300 million, under the financial structure of Banco BHD, and is part of the Miches Master Plan, which is being developed on a 1.5 million square meter plot of land in the Playa Esmeralda area.

The region's first all-inclusive JW Marriott

One of the most striking elements of the project is that the JW Marriott in Miches will be the first all-inclusive luxury hotel of this brand in the Dominican Republic and throughout the Caribbean region.

The development includes two hotels with a total of 650 rooms:

  • 200 rooms for the JW Marriott.
  • 450 rooms for the Autograph Collection.

In addition, there are 36 luxury residences and a complementary range of services, all facing 700 linear meters of virgin beach, an asset that significantly increases the value of the project.

The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the US-based Prime Group, whose representatives emphasized that this project will establish "a new standard of luxury" for a traveler profile seeking premium experiences in the Dominican Republic.

BHD and the financial muscle behind the project

During the announcement, Gabriel Tineo, general manager of Banco BHD, emphasized that both the bank's financial center and its investment and development fund are fully committed to promoting strategic projects in emerging destinations such as Miches.

“We are pleased to participate in an operation of this magnitude in such a special area as Playa Esmeralda,” he said, highlighting the financial sector’s confidence in the growth potential of this region.

Also present at the event were Larry Abel, Carlos Tejera, Juan Bancalari and Hugo Pérez from Terrestre, along with other authorities and representatives from the tourism and real estate sectors.

Miches as a new hub for luxury tourism

This project is part of the Miches Master Plan, which aims to make the area one of the country's main tourist hubs, along with other emerging destinations such as Cabo Rojo and Bergantín, also promoted during FITUR 2026 at the Breakfast "Advances and Investment Opportunities in the Dominican Republic".

The arrival of brands like JW Marriott and Autograph Collection not only raises the international profile of Miches, but also consolidates its transition towards a high value-added tourism model, where luxury hotels, real estate development, sustainability and territorial planning converge.
