It came true: Together we were stronger than “a thousand individual number 1s”

Carlos Réntalo shared a profound truth that resonated deeply with us: “Transformation in crisis: Bad agents sink. Good ones survive. Excellent ones transform and grow.” CILA-AEI 2025 became the mirror that showed us who we truly are.

The conviction was fulfilled

In my previous article I published something that sounded utopian: “United we are stronger than a thousand individual number 1s.” Perhaps many thought “Reyna is out of touch.”.

The Hard Rock Punta Cana convention center bore witness that it was not a utopia, it was a reality waiting for its moment.

The CILA-AEI 2025 Congress in the Dominican Republic was more than just a real estate event. It was the most compelling demonstration that when our sector unites, there are no limits to what we can achieve.

The numbers that made history

21 countries represented, recognition from NAR and CILA, "one of the best CILA congresses ever held" according to the participants themselves, and Dominican hospitality that made every visitor feel at home.

But the numbers don't tell the whole story. What really matters is what it meant for us as an industry.

The live transformation

During one of the most impactful presentations, Carlos Rentalo shared a truth that resonated with me deeply: “Transformation in crisis: Bad agents sink. Good ones survive. Excellent ones transform and grow.”

CILA-AEI 2025 was the perfect setting to witness this transformation firsthand. Those of us who were there, without leaving the room, absorbed every presentation that enriched us from beginning to end, chose to be excellent. We chose to transform and grow.

We saw agents from different agencies and countries sitting side by side, learning together, building professional relationships. The result was magical: genuine networking, an open exchange of best practices, no competition to be "number 1," collaborative projects born during breaks, and a unified image for the region.

For the first time in years, I didn't hear anyone say, "We are the best." Everyone was talking about, "We as a sector are excellent."«.

A necessary reflection

The congress was extraordinary, although we noted the absence of renowned Dominican real estate companies who, due to different circumstances, were unable to join this celebration of sector leadership.

This isn't about pointing fingers, but about reflecting on an opportunity for growth. Moments of sectoral transformation are more powerful when all voices are present.

Rentalo's equation invites us to choose: some of us opt for collective transformation; others prefer the individual path. Both are valid, but the results speak for themselves.

The important thing is that the doors are always open to build the future of the Dominican real estate sector together. This experience demonstrated the potential we have when we unite, and we hope it inspires more professionals to be part of the next opportunity.

What we learned and what defines us

This congress taught us something fundamental: when we stop competing to be better than others and start competing to be better than ourselves, the entire sector rises.

The international and local presentations showcased global trends, technologies that can be implemented collectively, quality standards we can adopt as an industry, and opportunities that require collaborative work. Every bit of knowledge gained will benefit all the clients we serve with these new tools.

Carlos Rentalo framed the transformation in crisis, and CILA-AEI 2025 was our defining moment. Which category did you choose to fall into? Did you sink by ignoring the opportunity? Did you survive by staying on the sidelines? Or did you transform and grow by actively participating?

Those of us who chose the third option emerged stronger not only as individual professionals, but as a sector.

The legacy and the so-called future

The international recognition was wonderful, but the true legacy is internal: we proved that we can be a world-class sector when we work together. International leaders didn't just applaud our hospitality; they were impressed by our collective professionalism.

When Dominican merengue music played at the closing ceremony, when we saw the satisfaction on the faces of our visitors, we knew we had achieved something special. It wasn't just a successful congress. It was proof that when we unite for a common cause, we are unstoppable.

To the large real estate companies that couldn't join us: we hope to see you at future events. It's during times of crisis that we must be most united as a sector. To those of us who were present: let's carry this spirit of unity into our daily work.

The final reflection

Perhaps many thought I was dreaming when I wrote about the power of unity. But as we tell our clients: if you dream of something and work for it, it can become a reality.

CILA-AEI 2025 was the materialization of that collective dream.

Now we know it wasn't an illusion. It was a conviction that we ourselves fulfilled.

Together we were not only stronger than a thousand individual number ones. Together we became an inspiration to 21 countries seeking to build what we have proven to have: a world-class real estate sector.

I extend my warmest congratulations to the entire organizing team of our AEI. We experienced a congress that made history.

And to everyone who made it possible: thank you for showing that when we unite for something great, we are unstoppable.
