David Collado reported that this year the Dominican Republic's objective is to attract new investments and strengthen air connectivity.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The 45th edition of the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2025, which will take place at the Ifema Madrid venue, will be inaugurated this coming Wednesday, January 22, with 9,500 participating companies, 156 countries and 884 main exhibitors, 10% more than in 2024, who will display their offerings in nine pavilions.
Dominican businesspeople linked to the tourism, real estate and construction industries are traveling to the traditional exhibition, where, according to David Collado, Minister of Tourism, various new developments will be announced.
“At Fitur, we will announce major brands entering the Dominican Republic, thanks to the confidence generated by the Tourism Cabinet. This is a year that has positioned the Dominican Republic as a leader in tourism throughout the region,” the official recently stated.
Collado also stated that the country will focus its efforts on strengthening air connectivity and attracting greater investment to the sector. He argued that improved connectivity guarantees more tourists will visit the country, and that increased investment will lead to the construction of more hotel rooms and a further diversification of the tourism offerings.
250,000 visitors
According to official Fitur documents, the projected attendance is a total of 250,000 visitors throughout the event, divided between 150,000 professionals from Wednesday to Friday and around 100,000 general public attendees on the weekend, highlighting 101 countries with official representation, five more than the last edition.
"With these excellent figures, FITUR maintains its strong business focus, with three
exclusive days for professionals from January 22 to 24, and its additional and differentiated reach to
travelers on the weekend by opening its doors to the general public on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th," the official documents highlight.
It is estimated that the large influx of attendees will generate an economic impact for Madrid of 445 million euros in revenue, with a positive effect on sectors such as mobility, hotels, restaurants, culture and leisure.
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Minister of Tourism announced that the country will be presenting new tourism projects that will be part of the agenda of new developments for the delegation accompanying him to the fair. Punta Bergantín (in Puerto Plata), Miches, Pedernales, and Las Terrenas will be showcased.
He also said that Samaná will have a great resurgence, where major brands will be introduced to Las Terrenas and will be announced at Fitur 2025.
Puntacana Group
The president of Grupo Puntacana, Frank Elías Rainieri, announced last week the participation of the business group and its brands in the forty-fifth International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2025), to be held from January 22 to 26, in Madrid, Spain, where they will announce new tourism investment projects that they will be developing.
“We have high expectations this year, and we are very pleased with our participation. At the fair, we will be alongside our strategic partners announcing new projects and investments we will be making in the country,” Rainieri stated.
Brazil will be the partner country
Brazil, for its part, will be the partner country of Fitur 2025 this year. The Brazilian stand will be in Hall 3 of Ifema Madrid, where it will showcase its tourism diversity, bringing together destinations from all its regions, airlines, operators and hotel chains committed to innovation and excellence.
Business, knowledge and sustainability: the trio of future tourism
In this new edition, FITUR announces the renewal of its 10 sections, promoting
sustainability and business by connecting the tourism industry with other sectors that generate new traveler niches. This is the case with FITUR Cruises, which will showcase the cruise industry's commitment to environmental sustainability, destination protection, and positive impact on local communities.
FITUR will also present LGBT+, a segment that encompasses more than 10% of tourists worldwide,
showcasing diversity and inclusion; FITUR Lingua, the space that addresses the opportunities of language tourism and its role in the decentralization and deseasonalization of tourism, developed in conjunction with FEDELE; FITUR Screen, which will connect the film industry with the tourism industry; and FITUR Sports, which will demonstrate how sports tourism is a driver of sustainable tourism.
Also noteworthy are FiturTechy, created in partnership with ITH, which will address how AI is revolutionizing travel management; Fitur Talent, presented as a special section on the challenges in talent, training, and skills development; Fitur Woman, sponsored by Extremadura and organized in collaboration with Women Leading Tourism, which aims to contribute to the promotion of female leadership; Fitur Know How & Export, the space created with Segittur in collaboration with ICEX for Spanish tourism companies to showcase their potential and services; and the second edition of Fitur 4all, which, with sponsorship from Mallorca, will promote the development of accessible tourism and highlight initiatives from destinations and companies in this area through the second Fitur 4all Awards and the first Guide to Good Practices, all in partnership with Impulsa Igualdad.
These ten sections are joined by Fitur's Sustainability Observatory, FiturNext in partnership with Aqualia, which will address how tourism can contribute to the sustainable management of food.
