Extreme heat will hit the country for at least three days; temperatures could exceed 37°C, warns the Meteorological Service

The agency highlighted that children, pregnant women, and the elderly are the groups most vulnerable to the effects of high temperatures

SANTO DOMINGO. TheDominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) warned that during the next few days high temperatures will be close to reaching severe to extreme heat levels, mainly in the northwest region, where they could exceed 37 °C for at least three consecutive days, due to the atmospheric conditions that prevail over the national territory and the increase in concentrations of Saharan dust.

In that regard, the institution indicated that, in sectors of the center and east, temperatures could exceed 35 °C during the same period, which represents a moderate to severe heat risk.

In addition, the Meteorological Service predicts an increase in Saharan dust, especially during the weekend, with concentrations exceeding 100 micrograms per cubic meter.
