The professional, with more than 40 years of experience, dedicated his last years to the construction of school buildings; his family will continue efforts to claim the outstanding debt
SANTO DOMINGO.- The death of engineer Felipe Abreu Rosario, a distinguished professional who graduated from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and an emblematic member of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA), brings back to the table the situation of State contractors who are waiting for payment for works executed and delivered.
With more than four decades dedicated to the development of national infrastructure, Abreu devoted his last years to the construction of school buildings for the Ministry of Education (MINERD), in addition to other works that he carried out together with his daughter, the engineer Yanelba Abreu.
The professional passed away after suffering health complications for the past 45 days, without having received, according to his family, the outstanding payment for work completed. The high medical expenses exacerbated his difficulties, while he continued to try to get the relevant institutions to fulfill their financial obligations.
Before his death, Abreu left his daughter as his representative to continue the proceedings aimed at obtaining payment of the debt and to follow up on the claims on behalf of the family.
A career linked to CODIA
Abreu was a pillar of CODIA and founder of the Santo Domingo East Delegation. His career in the organization was recognized by his colleagues, who held an honor guard in his honor as a sign of respect and solidarity.
During the tribute, the president of the organization, engineer Richardson, expressed his condolences and stressed the importance of supporting the family of the deceased in this moment of mourning.
In addition to his work in the construction sector, Abreu developed a prominent sporting side as captain of the CODIA domino team, a discipline in which he obtained medals and trophies in national and international competitions.
He also captured his knowledge and experience in his posthumous book, Let's Play Dominoes, a work that reflects part of his connection to this sport and constitutes another legacy of his career.
His family will continue the claim
The engineer's death leaves his family with the task of continuing the efforts to obtain payment for the work that, according to reports, remained pending settlement by the State.
The case also raises questions again about financial commitments to contractors carrying out public works and the need for institutions to fulfill their obligations in a timely manner.
However, to establish the extent of the debt and the status of the claims, it would be necessary to know the contractual documentation and the responses from the corresponding entities.
His remains will be buried in the Memorial Garden
Engineer Felipe Abreu Rosario passed away surrounded by the love of his three children, his sister, and his five grandchildren. He was still married to the mother of his children.
His remains are being viewed at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue. The funeral procession will depart this Friday at 1:00 p.m. for the Jardín Memorial Cemetery Park, where he will be laid to rest.
