National Geographic Brazil highlights this destination in Rio Grande do Sul for its enormous expanse of sand and its range of activities related to nature, sports and tourism
At the southern tip of Brazil lies one of South America's most stunning coastal destinations: Cassino Beach, in the municipality of Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul state. According to a report published by National Geographic Brazil, this coastline stretches for 254 kilometers, a length that has earned it the title of the world's longest beach.
A coastline that seems to have no end
Cassino Beach is characterized by a long stretch of fine, white sand bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Its vastness can even be appreciated from space, thanks to images captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite, part of the European Union's space program.
According to National Geographic Brazil, the data released by the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem allows us to observe the size of this coastal territory, which is part of one of the most important natural regions in southern Brazil.
Cassino is located approximately 22 kilometers from the center of Rio Grande, while from Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the journey reaches about 334 kilometers.
A destination that attracts thousands of visitors
In addition to its considerable size, the resort is one of the main tourist attractions in Rio Grande do Sul. The state's Tourism Secretariat, quoted by National Geographic Brazil, indicates that the area has the infrastructure to serve a local population of approximately 30,000 and receives more than 150,000 tourists during the summer season.
The landscape is its main attraction. The vast coastline allows for long walks along the sea, contemplating the natural surroundings and enjoying open spaces with a strong connection to the ocean.
Nature and bird watching
Natural beauty also plays a prominent role in the experiences Cassino offers. The coastline serves as a prime location for observing migratory birds, an activity that allows visitors to discover some of the biodiversity characteristic of this area of the Brazilian coast.
In addition to this proposal, there is the monument to Iemanjá, dedicated to the figure known as the "Queen of the Sea." The sculpture is one of the beach's cultural and tourist attractions.

The remains of the Altair ship, located on the coast, are also part of the attractions of the place and are frequented by fishing and surfing enthusiasts.
