The Cap Cana Destination City now boasts a modern amphitheater for concerts and various entertainment events. The Legend Arena at Dorado Park was inaugurated this weekend in a high-end ceremony led by President Luis Abinader.
The modern, Roman-inspired, contemporary event space was built with a $30 million investment, featuring top-quality facilities with all the amenities and amenities for all types of large-scale events.
During the official ceremony, last Friday, October 6, the Minister of Tourism David Collado, the President of Dorado Park Carlos Cobiella, the President of the Board of ALTIO, an investment fund management company Raúl Hoyo, and the President of the Board of Directors of Cap Cana, Fernando Hazoury, were present, among other personalities from the private and government sectors of the country.
The newly opened venue accommodates more than 3,000 people at shows and concerts, and about 9,000 at festivals and other multi-stage events without the need to install any external infrastructure.
Carlos Cobiella, president of Dorado Park, said that the construction of the amphitheater, after embarking on it in 2021, faced several challenges such as the pandemic and Hurricane Fiona, which generated a lot of uncertainty in the supply chain and the variability of raw material costs that made it very difficult to meet the schedule, and yet the amphitheater was completed in less than two years.
“Without a doubt, this has sparked the interest of many international and national producers to produce shows in this amphitheater, which will also help to boost the entertainment offerings in the area and diversify the current tourist profile,” he explained.
For his part, the president of the board of directors of Cap Cana, Fernando Hazoury, took the opportunity to congratulate President Abinader on his vision for macro-tourism proposed in his government program in the 2020 elections, recalling a meeting held in the same year where he explained why this sector was so important, and that the increase in complementary offerings was vital for tourism, specifically for the opening of new projects like the one inaugurated that day, betting on diversification.
“Real estate tourism is already the present and the true future of tourism in the Dominican Republic. That's how we saw and dreamed it from day one, in what would be, and what, thank God, is today, the Cap Cana Destination City, where everything that exists in a first-world city must exist, always giving priority to sustainability and ecology,” the businessman stated.
Raúl Hoyo, president of the board of ALTIO, an investment fund management company and partner in the project, stated that Altio seeks precisely to invest in this type of project that positively impacts the country's real economy and tourism.
“El Dorado Park is one of our most important assets and we are confident of its success as one of the best in Latin America,” he added.
David Collado, Minister of Tourism, said that inaugurating the amphitheater with a concert featuring Elton John, one of the world's greatest artists, demonstrates the private sector's confidence in continuing to invest in tourist attractions in the country "thanks to the stability of Luis Abinader's government and the revitalization we have undertaken in the sector through the Tourism Cabinet.".
Abinader stated that he is confident that the facilities at The Legend Arena Amphitheater will be a great success.
“The important thing is that we can continue working together, where the government has the necessary resources to promote the development of the private sector. I know that we will continue to achieve this and we will reach major agreements,” he concluded.
The formal ceremony was attended by business partners, government officials, friends and associates, as well as the local press.
To conclude, the night ended with the celebration of the concert "An Evening with Elton John", an exclusive gathering for 2,600 people starring the multi-award-winning artist.
The famous singer, who has entertained several generations for so many years, retired from the stage after his last tour “Farewell”.
