SANTO DOMINGO. – President Luis Abinader completed a weekend schedule of inaugurations that included the delivery of eight public works projects distributed across the provinces of Santiago Rodríguez, Duarte, and Santo Domingo Este, focused on road, hydraulic, and sports infrastructure.
Yesterday, Sunday, the president inaugurated the new road that connects Villa Riva with the Northeast Highway, a strategic project that strengthens the connectivity of the central Cibao region with the tourist centers of the province of Samaná, boosts regional trade and improves the quality of life for more than 50,000 people.
The project consisted of the construction of 10.3 kilometers of highway, carried out under contract by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), directly impacting more than 50,000 people in the connected communities. Additionally, 1.7 kilometers of secondary roads connecting different areas were paved.
Other road connections
One of the high-impact deliveries during the inauguration tour was the reconstruction of key roads, which for years were part of the requests of community leaders and local productive sectors to improve mobility and regional connectivity.
In Santiago Rodríguez, the government inaugurated the Puerta del Mulo-Monción Hydroelectric Plant road section and the Arroyo Seco-Monción Hydroelectric Plant road section. These infrastructure projects facilitate access between rural communities and the province's main economic development hubs, and, according to community leaders and agricultural producers, had been repeatedly demanded for at least a decade.
These sections are among the projects with the greatest social impact, as they revitalize vehicular traffic, reduce travel times, and connect agricultural areas with urban markets.
The weekend inaugurations included complementary works in other provinces, reflecting an investment scheme that combines hydraulic, road and sports infrastructure with citizen participation as one of the prioritization factors.
Historical debt paid
For more than 20 years, residents and community authorities of the municipality of Monción, Santiago Rodríguez province, have placed among their main demands the implementation of a drinking water system that addresses the historical precariousness of the service in the area.
Despite the fact that Monción is home to the dam that bears its name, a structure inaugurated in 2001 with multiple hydraulic and energy functions, the absence of a modern aqueduct left thousands of inhabitants without reliable access to drinking water in quality, quantity and pressure for more than two decades of constant complaints.
This weekend, President Abinader led the inauguration of the Monción-Sabaneta multiple aqueduct, which will benefit more than 50,000 people distributed in at least 17 localities of the province.
The project, executed by the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA), involved an investment of RD$1,645.6 million, which included not only the installation of distribution networks in all the streets of the beneficiary communities, but also the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 70 liters per second, relay stations, a regulating reservoir of 1,200 cubic meters and up to 4,000 household connections to provide continuous and safe water to the population.
In his handover speech, the president emphasized that this project "corrects a historical debt to the community," because the municipality, despite having natural water sources, lacked an effective structural solution.

- Salinity Barrier Aqueduct (Santo Domingo East) – Expansion to ensure water supply.
