President Luis Abinader, along with the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, led the inauguration ceremony of a series of road works developed in different communities of the Peravia province, in the south of the country, at a cost exceeding 415 million pesos.
Ascención said that these projects bring the total number of completed works by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) to 296 in three years of administration. These works consisted of paving, sidewalk construction, and the building of curbs in the Arroyo Hondo sector of Matanzas. The first phase covers 10.7 kilometers, including the main street, which is 5.5 meters wide.
A total of 53 kilometers of roads were worked on, including paving and re-paving, according to a press release from the Directorate of Communications of Public Works.
Ascención stated that in addition to the street repairs, “other works have been carried out with a direct impact on the more than 40,000 inhabitants of this community and those nearby who live in direct contact with these towns.”.
Other communities that have benefited include Santana, where the critical point or sinkhole created by the rains, which prevented traffic on its main street, has been resolved.
Also, in the urban area of Baní, more than 80 million pesos have been invested in the improvement of almost 15 kilometers of streets.
“Today we can say that the main streets of Baní are definitely new,” Ascención emphasized.
He announced that the Baní bypass project is 85% complete, and that the final phase, including paving and finishing touches, will begin in December.
The restoration of the Máximo Gómez highway, which connects Villa Sombrero with Salinas, Las Calderas, the Palmar de Ocoa junction, and the town of Arroyo Hondo in Matanzas province, has been completed. This work includes the installation of complete road signage from Baní to the Las Calderas Naval Base.
For years, community members had been demanding the repair of streets that were destroyed by the lack of a drainage system and government neglect.
Community members from Arroyo Hondo, in Matanzas, and San José thanked President Abinader and the Minister of Public Works for the projects they have brought to those communities.
Manuel Porfirio González gave thanks on behalf of the communities that have benefited from the repair and paving of the streets, the playground, the improvement of the electrical networks, among others.
Carmen Mejía Castillo, president of the Arroyo Hondo Norte neighborhood association, said that President Abinader “deserves the gratitude of the entire community; I have seen many projects that only this President has undertaken.”.
Lorenzo Soto, a resident of the Arroyo Hondo sector, said that before, people walked along mule paths, "and today we are walking on very different roads.".
The event was attended by Ángela Yadira Báez, provincial governor; Senator Milcíades Franjul; Mayor Santos Ramírez; and Representatives Luis Alcides Báez and Julito Fulcar.
Also present were the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Roberto Herrera, Elías Santana, and Mélito Santana; the director of the Comipol, General Rafael Vásquez Espinola, among others.
