This is the weather alert map for the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Forecast Center of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) maintains weather warning and alert levels for Wednesday afternoon, due to the risk of urban flooding, as well as rising rivers, streams, ravines, gusts of wind, frequent electrical storms, and possible landslides.

"This Wednesday, the presence of an atmosphere with considerable humidity and instability associated with a trough at various levels of the troposphere and the humid southerly wind will continue to favor moderate to heavy downpours with thunderstorms and very strong gusts of wind locally over provinces of the Caribbean coastal coast this afternoon and early evening, which will extend during the afternoon towards the northwest, north, northeast regions, the Central mountain range and the border area," says the 1:00 pm report of this day from the agency.

It identifies the provinces where the greatest rainfall could occur as San Cristóbal, Hato Mayor, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Sánchez Ramírez, Samaná, Monte Plata, El Seibo, Barahona, San José de Ocoa, Azua, Elías Piña, Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde and Monte Cristi.

The COE alert

In a press conference, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) increased the number of provinces under yellow alert to three, and 12 provinces and the National District under green alert, due to the continued occurrence of rains of varying intensities, resulting from the influence of a trough at different levels of the troposphere and the effects of the east/southeast wind.

The following are on yellow alert:

Monsignor Nouel
San José de Ocoa
San Cristóbal

The provinces under green alert are:

Santo Domingo,
National District,
Santiago Rodríguez,
Elías Piña
, Azua,
Barahona,
Santiago,
Puerto Plata
, Dajabón,
La Vega,
La Altagracia,
Duarte (especially the Lower Yuna region),
and Peravia.

The agency recommends that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high water levels and avoid using swimming areas in the provinces under alert.
