The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, the Pro-Pedernales Trust, and the Save The Children organization announced that they will make a visit to Pedernales this Wednesday the 28th, with the purpose of promoting the meeting "Towards a culture of prevention of the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Pedernales".
This activity is part of the joint effort to ensure that Cabo Rojo has a tourism model of Zero Tolerance to child sexual exploitation, thus becoming the first tourist destination to address this problem from the beginning of its development, integrating it as a cross-cutting theme in its planning.
This meeting aims to publicize the initiative that seeks to promote a culture of protection for children and adolescents against commercial sexual exploitation, integrating it as a cross-cutting theme in the tourism development model of Cabo Rojo and the entire Southern region, and in this way, prevent child sexual exploitation from before the destination formally operates.
This effort will involve the participation of Dominican State institutions, international organizations, the private sector, and members of the community.
The meeting, to be held today, Wednesday, August 28, in the hall of the Provincial Government of Pedernales, will be led by the Minister of Public Administration and Executive Director of the Pro-Pedernales Trust, Sigmund Freund; the Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, Olaya Dotel Caraballo; the Director of the Pro-Pedernales Trust's Implementing Unit, José Rafael Miguel; the Director of Save the Children, Alba Rodríguez; and the Technical Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), Eliardo Cairo.
Among the topics to be discussed are the presentation of the Cabo Rojo Tourism Development Project and its impact on the entire region, and the presentation of the exploratory study: Analysis of the situation of child and adolescent protection in the Pedernales area.
Similarly, a panel discussion with community leaders will be held to reflect on the problems in the province, including examples of relevant cases.
In addition, the project's axes and components will be presented: Details on the integration of child and adolescent protection against commercial sexual exploitation in the tourism development of Pedernales-Cabo Rojo.
The initiative, which will be initially financed by Spanish Cooperation, through the project "Protection of children and adolescents against commercial sexual exploitation as a cross-cutting axis of the tourism development of Pedernales-Cabo Rojo", as well as the Madrid City Council as part of Spanish decentralized cooperation, also seeks other support from international cooperation organizations.
