The Puerto Plata cable car will be modernized with a $20 million investment

Vladimir Santana, representative of the Cable Car Shop Owners Association, revealed yesterday that the Puerto Plata Cable Car will be closed for 18 to 24 months for remodeling and modernization.

He said the projected investment is $20 million and that during the dialogue with the Government, they discussed compensation for time and losses, "the amount of which has not yet been established.".

He indicated that the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, along with the members of the Cable Car Board, were informed that the tourist destination will be rebuilt “completely”.

Santana did not specify the date the Government has planned for the closure of the Puerto Plata Cable Car, however he said that they will meet next Monday, June 10, first thing in the morning at the offices of the Ministry of Tourism, where they will receive details of what will happen to them and to the people who depend on this important tourist attraction.

Roads will be improved

The Puerto Plata Cable Car Board, through an official statement, reported that the roads to the Loma Isabel de Torres Natural Monument will be "immediately improved by the central government" so that people can go up while the cable car is closed.

He explained that the cable car project will kick off the complete system overhaul. It will be closed for 18 to 24 months for remodeling and modernization.

The Board of Trustees specified that during the process of readjusting this heritage of the people of Puerto Plata, meetings will be held with all actors linked to the sector, with the objective that it will cause the least impact for all the companies and families that depend on this operation.

“Both the Board of Trustees and the Dominican Government seek, with the construction and installation of this new cable car, to guarantee an operation with the highest standards of quality and safety demanded by the times, protecting the integrity of all Dominicans and foreigners,” the document emphasizes.

The Board of Trustees stated that they will keep the public informed of every development. "And rest assured that all stakeholders in the tourism sector will be considered essential partners for the success of this new project," they affirmed.
