The La Otra Banda Mayor's Office is promoting the construction of the Tourist Boulevard to improve connectivity in La Altagracia

SANTO DOMINGO.– The mayor of the Municipal District of La Otra Banda, Alexander Rodríguez, reported on the progress of the La Otra Banda Tourist Boulevard project, a road project aimed at improving connectivity in the province of La Altagracia and responding to the urban and tourist growth of the area.

According to the mayor, the boulevard will extend for 2.5 kilometers and will be developed as a four-lane road approximately 24 meters wide. He indicated that the design aims to address the increased traffic generated by the population growth, real estate development, and tourism in the surrounding area.

Connection to main road axes

According to statements made by the mayor's office, the new road will connect the La Otra Banda–Verón highway with the Coral Highway, facilitating access to the Verón-Punta Cana tourist district.

He also noted that it will serve as an alternative connection to the Bávaro ring road, which could help reduce traffic congestion at critical points, especially on journeys between Higüey, Santo Domingo and the eastern tourist area.

Proximity to the airport

The mayor stated that one of the elements considered in the project planning is its proximity to the Punta Cana International Airport, which, he affirmed, could strengthen the attractiveness of developing sectors within the Municipal District of La Otra Banda.

In that context, he indicated that residential areas and real estate expansion zones would be just minutes from the airport terminal, which could influence new investment initiatives in the area.

Institutional coordination and the private sector

Rodríguez explained that the project is being promoted by the La Otra Banda Municipal District Council in coordination with representatives of the local business sector.

He explained that the mayor's office and the business community will undertake the initial work of graveling and preparing the road, while they plan to seek support from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications for the paving and final completion phase.

The mayor noted that the project is part of the municipal plans to strengthen road infrastructure in response to the sustained growth of La Altagracia province, considered one of the country's main tourist areas.
