Authorities will launch one of the first mobility operations of Santo Domingo 2026, with temporary disruptions on the Malecón and Avenida España while athletes run the competition route
SANTO DOMINGO– The Malecón will cease to be one of the capital's main thoroughfares for a few hours, transforming into an international sporting venue. This Friday, July 31, the reconnaissance route for cyclists participating in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will trigger a special traffic operation that will temporarily modify traffic between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
It won't be a competition or an opening ceremony. It will be the first major on-site rehearsal for one of the most demanding disciplines on the sporting program and, at the same time, a test of the city's ability to balance hosting an international event with the daily mobility of thousands of drivers.
According to the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), during those two hours there will be controlled interruptions at different points along the route to allow athletes to familiarize themselves with the circuit under conditions similar to those they will encounter during the official competition.
The route will cross the capital's waterfront
Traffic restrictions will cover some of the busiest corridors in Greater Santo Domingo.

Authorities clarified that this is not a permanent closure of these avenues, but rather temporary interruptions coordinated by traffic agencies as the group of cyclists advances.

The city will test its mobility plan
The operation not only aims to protect the athletes. It also represents one of the first tests of the mobility plan that will accompany the Central American and Caribbean Games in the coming weeks.
Intrant explained that traffic modifications will be available on Waze, allowing drivers to consult updated routes before setting out. Additionally, officers from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett) will be deployed along the route to direct traffic and expedite intersections.
The coordination involves the Transportation Cabinet, the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC), OMSA, the Integrated Transportation System, ParqueaT RD, the National Police and the Santo Domingo 2026 Organizing Committee.
