SANTO DOMINGO.– The runway at the San Isidro Air Base will begin to be strengthened as a possible operational alternative within the Dominican airport system, amid new investments aimed at modernizing the country's aeronautical infrastructure.
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) announced this Tuesday that it will deliver a new control tower with an equipped cabin at this military air terminal in the coming days.
The project aims to expand operational capacity
According to the general director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez Durán, the intervention will allow the San Isidro runway to function as an alternative to the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez.
He indicated that the investment also includes modern radio communication systems, a DVOR/DME air navigation system, and energy backup systems designed to ensure operational continuity and greater technical efficiency.
More technology for surveillance and air safety
The official stated that the incorporation of this equipment will strengthen aeronautical surveillance and raise operational safety standards in Dominican territory.
The entity specified that the interventions are part of the initiatives promoted to modernize the national aeronautical system and expand the country's air connectivity capabilities.
San Isidro gains importance within the airport system
According to the authorities, the project also responds to the growing operational needs within civil aviation and the interest in developing infrastructure capable of serving as strategic support in the face of increased air traffic.
Rodríguez Durán also highlighted the support given to the aeronautical sector to continue developing projects related to modernization and technical strengthening of national air terminals.
