Government inaugurates second phase of Malecón Santo Domingo East

SANTO DOMINGO- President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated yesterday, Wednesday, May 20, the second stage of the reconstruction of the Malecón of Santo Domingo East, carried out with an investment of RD 314,411,200.

With this second stage, the total intervention of the boardwalk of this thriving municipality is concluded, which required a total investment of RD 685,261,126, according to a statement from the Presidency.

The inauguration was led by President Luis Abinader, along with tourism officials, municipal authorities, and business leaders. (External source).

The project consists of providing a recreational space along the entire coastline of Avenida España, from the facilities of the Dominican Naval Base to the Las Américas highway, with a total length of 4.1 kilometers of coastline, more than 237,734 square meters of natural park.

President Luis Abinader highlighted the impact of the interventions and assured that this boardwalk will become an ideal setting for recreation for residents of Santo Domingo East and tourists.

The president also called on the residents to take care of the new boardwalk, describing it as something wonderful.

He highlighted the economic growth and dynamism being recorded in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este.

For his part, Collado said that this intervention is part of the program being implemented by the Ministry of Tourism to recover the seawalls and waterfronts.

“Here we are, together with President Luis Abinader, delivering the second phase of the restoration of this beautiful boardwalk. Fulfilling our promise to Santo Domingo East,” the official stated.

He stated that this project is part of the extensive seafront restoration program being carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in various parts of the country.

“It’s time we stopped turning our backsonthe sea. We must take advantage of these marine spaces for the benefit of our community residents and the tourists who visit them,” he said.

The complete intervention of the Malecón of Santo Domingo East was divided into two stages that include: the urban construction of sidewalks-bike path in the south direction, construction of internal roads, conditioning of central islands.

The project also includes expansions and installations of 11 parking areas, construction of 8 micro-accents (recreational plaza areas), creation of urban furniture, landscaping, sanitary installations (rainwater drainage) and exterior electrical installations.

In addition to President Abinader and Minister Collado, municipal and provincial authorities, as well as other officials and personalities from the country, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
